Celebrating Nature

The aim of this blog is to celebrate nature.

Today, 10th October, is World Mental Health Day. It seems the ideal day to reflect on what keeps me going when things are rough. To this end I’m creating a blog and there couldn’t be a better day to publish my first post!

I have long been inspired by nature (or more accurately blown away by nature). It offers solace and wonder and enchants all of our senses. It’s all encompassing. It surrounds us and we are an integral part of it. We all experience its power everyday.

Nature has always informed my arts and crafts and I see many new things each day. It’s my muse and it rocks.

I’d like to share things that I’ve learnt and what I am learning, photos I’ve taken, how nature heals and most of all the joy it brings.

Part of the reason I have decided to start a nature blog:

I live in a garden village just outside of York city centre. Community Action for Nature was set up in 2014 by a small group of local residents who set out to take care of some paths and land near the river Foss. I started to volunteer for CAN in June of this year so I am still very much a newbie. Through setting up a twitter account for CAN and spending time with the “stalwarts”Ā  šŸ˜‰Ā  I’ve learnt so much in such a short space of time and have widened my interests. I now have a bookshelf dedicated to nature ID and several apps on my phone too.

I hope to document what CAN do for New Earswick and for the benefit of all who walk along and around the paths of the river foss. The benefit stretches beyond that of others though. The benefits to the volunteers is great. Being outdoors, watching the seasons change in the details of the plants we have nurtured, spending time with likeminded people who want to achieve things together, smiling and laughing, exercise and learning from each other … that’s only a part of what I’ve experienced thus far.

CAN tweets … give us a follow or RT!

CAN has a Facebook page … Give us a like!
